The perfect suitcase

The perfect suitcase, let’s face it, does not exist. After a series of trips, however, we have all acquired a certain familiarity. So what are the tricks to prepare the perfect baggage?
The perfect suitcase requires organization. First of all, there are a series of questions to ask yourself, with respect to the type of trip, the means of transport we intend to use, the duration of the trip and the season of the place we are going to..

I have tried to summarize below the main tips that will allow you to enjoy every vacation (and every eventuality) without traveling with your entire wardrobe. So let’s go in order, following four simple steps step by step.

THE FOUR QUESTIONS FOR THE PERFECT SUITCASE:

WHAT MEANS OF TRANSPORT DO YOU TRAVEL?

You don’t need to have an infinite set of options, but choosing your luggage is the first step and can make your life easier. Type of trip = type of suitcase.

The perfect equation is made up of many variables, but to simplify:

AIR TRAVEL

It is better to prefer rigid or semi-rigid suitcases and trolleys.

The reason is simple: you will not be able to fill your luggage to the max and you will avoid possible overweight costs. Your suitcase will always be in line!

In addition, a shell structure is more resistant and will protect delicate objects from impacts but also from liquids (it could rain or the bottles with liquids could break).

! Exceptions !

If you are backpacking, make sure the structure is sturdy and wrap the most delicate items in a towel or a large sweater depending on the season. If you plan to stop inside, you can check in the backpack inside a hard trolley. Leave this “shell” at the luggage storage together with what you have already used or that you will not need in the following days. This way you will lighten your shoulders and recover the excess weight upon your return.

TRAIN JOURNEY

Semi-rigid solutions or duffel bags are preferable.

The spaces dedicated to suitcases (usually above your head, the safest place to have your personal items in sight) are often different in height and depth. A soft solution will adapt better to the spaces.

Pay attention to the weight, you will need to be able to lift the luggage to place it on the overhead lockers. An optimal solution may be to divide the luggage into two duffel bags, so as to differentiate weight and size.

Furthermore, for “on the fly” connections, a bag with wheels that can be dragged is advisable. Another solution is duffel bags that allow the possibility of using the handles on the shoulder or as shoulder straps for a backpack.

TRAVEL BY CAR

In the car, soft solutions are the best.

This way you can make the most of the trunk space. The rule is especially valid if you plan to be more than two.

In addition, the checkerboard strategy allows you to save space. Instead of just one bag per person (and a geometry lesson for the puzzles), think of more bags for each. For example, separate the clothes from the beauty case and make a separate bag for the shoes.

Warning: dividing does not mean multiplying!
